Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot other than him with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
