The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
