The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
