The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
