The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
