The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

At least 16 people perished and over 40 were hurt when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local police are describing as a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, officials have announced the death toll is 16, encompassing one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 wounded individuals were taken to hospital.

The deceased are yet to be officially identified, but investigators think their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the events before the attack, saying they were standing when the shooting started. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was among those killed in the incident, according to reports referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. The injured include two police officers who attended the scene.

A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
