Netflix Chooses Spot-On Star for Bon Clay in the Hit Series Upcoming Installment

Baroque Works is set to make a major impact in Netflix’s upcoming season of One Piece, even if the major clash isn’t set to occur until season 3, and a beloved, audience-beloved member has recently been selected.

The streaming service revealed this week that the talented performer is now part of the One Piece season 3 cast and will play Bon Clay. Bon Clay has the ability to change into an exact copy of any individual they’ve made contact with with their right hand. Escola, who is identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, will play a interpretation of that character reimagined as gender non-binary, rather than as a drag performer, in the real-life adaptation, differing from the source material and cartoon version.

The new cast member joins several other fresh additions who will portray the organization to reality, featuring head Sir Crocodile, brought to life by the well-known actor, an emerging star as a key member, and an accomplished actor, who is also part of the cast as King Nefertari Cobra of the desert kingdom.

Though Bon Clay is a important part of the group, the character won’t make their debut One Piece the upcoming installment. Given the second season expected to adapt the Little Garden storyline, this signals a major departure in the timing of the character’s debut, one that could suggest additional alterations to the story’s structure.

Their mix of excellent comedic sense and deep sensitivity makes them a perfect fit for the part. Besides their current animated role in the animated coming-of-age film Boys Go to Jupiter, they garnered significant recognition and multiple awards for writing and starring in the successful stage production Oh Mary!, showcasing the versatility they’ll bring to one of One Piece’s most celebrated characters.

The streaming service’s real-life One Piece program is set to return for its second season on the tenth of March, 2026.
