Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
