Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The track features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a figure said. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
